Tom Bean, Texas -- Meals on Wheels of Texoma announced today that it will be holding Mayors For Meals Day as a part of its March For Meals campaign. Tom Bean Mayor Sherry Howard will be participating in the event to show her support for the community’s seniors.
We are excited about having Mayor Howard participate in our event,” said Kathey Scott, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels of Texoma. “We hope to raise awareness and recruit as many people as we possibly can in the national movement to end senior hunger by 2020. Mayor Howard is closely involved with our program and sits on the Meals on Wheels of Texoma Board of Directors.”
March for Meals is a national campaign, initiated by Meals on Wheels Association of America, which seeks to raise awareness of senior hunger and to encourage action on the part of the local community. Senior nutrition programs across the United States, like Meals on Wheels of Texoma, promote March for Meals in their local communities through public events, partnership with local businesses, volunteer recruitment and fundraising initiatives.
Mayors For Meals Day is a component of March For Meals that utilizes the involvement of local mayors and other local elected officials.
