Visitors to the Van Alstyne Public Library will enjoy a display by local artist Mike Uhl  during February.  Mike Uhl is retired from teaching Special Education.  In October 2008 he decided to try painting.  Mr. Uhl has lived in Van Alstyne since 1982 and has been a member of the Van Alstyne Library Board and Boy Scouts leader. Prior to teaching, he worked at Texas Instruments as a draftsman and technical illustrator. He and his wife Susan are both members of the Van Alstyne United Methodist Church. They have a son, Chris Uhl.

New free basic computer classes started this week.  Tuesday classes meet at 2:30 and Thursday classes meet at 6:00 p.m.  Thursday classes are a repeat of Tuesday classes.  Classes include how to do basic word processing, how to use the Internet, and how to use e-mail.  They are paced slowly for beginners.  The entire course usually lasts for six weeks.

From the Desk of DeAnna  Willman:  Thank you to all who came to Bucksnort’s BBQ Sunday evening to help support the library.  Remember that every Sunday evening in February, Bucksnort’s will be donating a portion of its profits to the Teen/Children’s areas of the library.  Be sure to stop in for some great barbeque and say hello to your favorite library staff member or Teen Council member.

February 19 is Family Night at the library.  We will be entertained by the bells and stories of Rochelle Rabouin.  Bring your own bell for even more fun.  We will open the doors at 6:30 p.m.

Our new books clubs for kids aged 2 years through 8th grade will begin next month.  Be sure to come by for information and to sign up to participate.  Members will be given t-shirts and other great prizes once they have finished their reading list.  Come in and sign up today!
