Whitesboro -- With Jill Schuessler, Rachel Urban and Jennifer Williams all finishing in double figures, the Whitesboro Lady Cats slipped in front of Celina and then distanced their opponent with a big third period.
Both teams hit the floor running, with Whitesboro holding a 16-14 advantage at the first buzzer. The second period was very evenly played, but Whitesboro managed a 24-21 lead at intermission.
After making effective adjustments at halftime, Whitesboro outscored Celina 17-8 in the third period to take charge. Celina trimmed two points off their deficit in the fourth quarter, but Whitesboro earned a 10-point victory, 53-43, in front of their hometown fans.
Whitesboro's Jill Schuessler scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed four steals. Rachel Urban put up 13 points and dished out four assists, while Jennifer Williams tossed in 10 points and finished with eight rebounds.
Kenzie Newman led Celina with 16 points and teammate Amanda Gerths had 13 points.
