The East Texas Timberland Owners’ Association, in conjunction with the Northeast Texas Society of American Foresters, will conduct a Prescribed Burn Demonstration and Discussion Meeting on February 18, 2010 at Charles Snowden’s Tree Farm, 1170 County Road 3544 in Atlanta, Texas.
The burn will take place at 1:30 pm, followed by a campfire dinner and discussion meeting at 6:00 pm. (be sure to bring your lawn chair). In the event of rain, the entire event will be cancelled. Ronnie Hamm, retired Texas Forest Service, will lead the discussion on what the small landowner should do to prepare for and conduct a burn operation. He will also discuss the many large fires "out west" that he has fought, including fires in California, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and West Texas!
Association members and anyone interested in attending the tour are asked to wear sturdy boots or hiking boots. Those attending the live burn demonstration may bring ATVs or four-wheelers, provided you bring a water tank with sprayer capabilities.
