COMMERCE, Texas – The Texas Clarinet Colloquium, formerly known as the Northeast Texas Clarinet Day, is a state-wide festival for clarinetists of all ages and levels, and will be hosted by Texas A&M University-Commerce in the Sam Rayburn Student Center Feb. 26-27.
“I am so happy to be able to host this event on the A&M-Commerce campus. Without the fantastic facilities of the Sam Rayburn Student Center, I may have had to cancel this event since our music building cannot accommodate the expected number of guests at the 2010 Texas Clarinet Colloquium,” said Mary Druhan, TCC Founder and Director and A&M-Commerce associate professor of music.
The event will feature 20 guest artists who will present classes, lectures, rehearsals, and concerts. Private teachers, band directors and parents, as well as vendors and exhibitors will also be on hand.
Students of all ages will be able to participate in a variety of forums. Middle school students will be the focus of classes, lectures and events designed for their level of playing. High school students can register to perform in a master class or in a solo competition, and will have the opportunity to work with some of the field’s finest teachers. College students will work with internationally recognized artists in master class settings and lectures.
In addition to the events, the TCC is bringing back the clarinet choir, which consists of about 100 student and teacher players. Phillip Clements, A&M-Commerce director of instrumental activities, will conduct the performance.
“My goal with this event is twofold,” Druhan said. “First, I want to provide a quality of education for anyone who seeks it, and second, to showcase the talent and expertise of our students and faculty to the community on a local, regional and state level.”
All students are encouraged to bring their instruments to the event. Attendance is free, but registration is required, either through pre-registration or on site.
