DURANT, Okla. -- Southeastern Oklahoma State University will host two events for prospective students in the month of February --  "SE LIVE" and "Scholarship Competition Weekend."

SE LIVE is an open house event on Wednesday, Feb. 10.
Southeastern president Larry Minks will welcome some 200 high school students, their parents and counselors at 9 a.m. in Montgomery Auditorium.

SE LIVE is the University's largest open house,  and a perfect opportunity for high school juniors and seniors, along with their parents and families, to experience life at Southeastern. Students attending SE LIVE will be able to explore campus and residence life, experience Southeastern traditions, attend a class, visit with admissions and financial aid departments, and meet personnel from various academic departments.

The full agenda is available online from the future-students page under visit (SE LIVE). To attend SE LIVE, register online at www.SE.edu.

The Scholarship Competition Weekend is slated for Feb. 19-20.

This is a combination of three competition/audition dates for high school students interested in the Honors Program, the President's Leadership Class and the Music Department. Students competing for Honors and PLC should have applied by Jan. 31 to participate.

President Minks will address students at 9 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 20) in Montgomery Auditorium.

Speakers in addition to Minks will be Dr. Lisa Coleman, Director of the Honors Program; Dr. Marc White, Professor in the Music Department; and Liz McCraw, Dean of Enrollment Management.

Three students will also address the audience and all guests will have the opportunity to enjoy performances by Southeastern's
outstanding music ensembles.

An interesting addition to the event is a "hands-on" financial-aid workshop Saturday afternoon. Southeastern encourages students/parents to bring their 2009 tax information with them to apply for financial aid. A professional will be available to guide them through the process.

This is part of the Financial Aid Awareness Month. Southeastern is part of the state-wide initiative to help more Oklahomans in accessing federal and state assistance for higher education.

McCraw said, "This new format for the Scholarship Competition Weekend is designed to provide potential students with a very personalized experience at Southeastern. We realize that the most academically prepared and most talented students will be on campus to compete for scholarships. We are looking forward to hosting these students and confident that Southeastern is the best choice for higher education and that these students will find meaningful connections to our SE students, staff and faculty while on campus."
