Show hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Feb. 23 and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Feb. 24. The event is sponsored by the Abilene Chamber of Commerce and the Texas AgriLife Extension Service.
The show features educational seminars, equipment exhibits, product demonstrations, the Town and Country Women's Fair, the Rolling Plains Cotton Growers Association's annual meeting and the Abilene Chamber of Commerce’s annual membership luncheon. The highlight of the luncheon will be the naming of the Taylor County Farm Family of the Year.
Robert Pritz, AgriLife Extension agent in Taylor County, said 18 Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be offered during the educational seminars.
The women's fair starts at 9 a.m. Feb. 23 in the Modern Living Mall.
“The show’s agricultural-related educational programs begin at 8 a.m. Feb. 23 with the Big Country Range Management Program in the Extension Classroom,” Pritz said.
“Events will continue with the Rolling Plains Cotton Growers Association’s annual meeting at 10 a.m. followed immediately by their membership luncheon in the Big Country Hall.”
Pritz said the afternoon sessions begin at 1 p.m. and include “Cotton Production in 2010” in the Big Country Hall and “Wildlife Habitat Management Seminar” in the Western Heritage Ranch House.
Concurrent programs on Feb. 24 will begin at 8 a.m. and include “Texas Department of Agriculture Re-certification Course” in the Big Country Hall, a “Prospective Wine Grape Producer Seminar” in the Extension Classroom and a “Tools VI – Technology as a Tool for Managing Range, Livestock and Wildlife” in the Western Heritage Ranch House.
The expo will again be offering a Hunter Safety Education Course. The two-day course will be in the Extension Classroom each day starting at 5 p.m. Participants must attend both sessions, and pass the end-of-course exam to receive credit and certification, according to Pritz.
The chamber of commerce luncheon is set for 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 24 in the Big Country Hall. Keynote speaker will be humorist Tumbleweed Smith.
The final educational program, "Pond Management Seminar”, starts at 2 p.m. in the Big Country Hall.
All seminars are free to the public with the exceptions of the “Tools VI – Technology as a Tool for Managing Range, Livestock and Wildlife” and the “Prospective Wine Grape Producer Seminar," which have individual registrations of $25 and $50, respectively.
