DENTON (UNT), Texas -- Kristen Blair and Nicole Miner have been friends throughout much of their college career. They've visited each other's apartments, taken vocal classes together through the University of North Texas College of Music, and at the end of January, they'll both compete in the 2010 Miss America Pageant.
A total of 53 women will compete in the preliminaries, which take place on Jan. 26, 27 and 28, and the finals, which takes place on Jan. 30. Thecompetition will broadcast live on TLC on Jan. 30 from Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Blair will represent Texas, and Miner will represent New Mexico.

Both women joked about someday competing against each other, when each woman found out the other was competing in smaller, local pageants to make her way toward the Miss America pageant.
"Wouldn't it be cool if you won Miss New Mexico and I won Miss Texas, and we went to Miss America together," Blair recalled telling Miner. This summer, that dream became a reality as each woman won her respective state title.

Miner, who was crowned with her title in June 2009, will compete as "Miss New Mexico." Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Miner is currently a UNT senior majoring in music education.
Blair, who was crowned in July 2009, will compete as "Miss Texas." She currently lives in Southlake and is a junior majoring in vocal
performance.
Since then, Miner said they've become closer friends, often helping one another prepare for upcoming competitions. Both women said that friendship will carry on throughout the competition, regardless of who wins.
"If we're ever feeling a little lonely, we can always count on each
other," said Miner.
