Local businessman and former Chairman of Bonham Chamber of Commerce, Joe Strong has announced his candidacy for Fannin County Commissioner Precinct 4. He and his wife, Kathy, have lived in Dodd City since 2000.

Strong, a six-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, has pledged to bring solid leadership, efficient management and conservative values to the Fannin County Commissioners Court. In his announcement, Strong stated that “there is too much money owed to the county that is not collected. If the county would collect those funds, the county would have a larger budget to work with without raising the taxes or the value of the properties.”

During his announcement, Strong also pledged his support to local fire and law enforcement, stating “they need the support to keep Fannin County safe.” However, he went on to caution that “they will [still] need to be responsible and accountable for their budgets”

Strong also believes that the county needs a justice center that will not only serve the current needs but into the future, but said he would oppose the use of tax dollars for the restoration of historical landmarks. “The landmarks may be significant, and if significant enough, need funding by other means.”

Concluding his announcement, Strong reinforced his beliefs that resources, both staff power and expenses should be used on roads more efficiently. “This is not just grading the roads themselves but also maintaining the easements. This would take a higher priority than tourism.”

Joe Strong served on the Bonham Area Chamber Of Commerce Board for three years and served as 2006 Chamber Chairman. Strong was voted 2008 Citizen of Year. Strong additionally served as 2008 VP Republican Men Club and 2009 elected president of Republican Men Club. He currently serves on the Bonham Literacy Council and Fannin Health Partnership, and as a Red Cross volunteer.

Strong worked at MCI for 18 years, he had projects involving managing budgets and using problem solving skills with several different groups. He later opened and operated Strong Medical Equipment from 2002 to 2009.
