Four members of the Texas A&M University-Commerce men's basketball team scored in double digits in a 72-62 loss to Texas A&M-Kingsville on Thursday night in Kingsville, Texas.
A brief 5-0 spurt midway through the second half extended an advantage for host Texas A&M-Kingsville to a lead that they would not relinquish for the duration of the contest. The Lions rallied to get as close as three, 51-48, with 7:06 remaining before TAMUK extended its lead beyond a single possession and end hopes for a Lions¹ comeback.
Texas A&M-Kingsville (4-1) was led by Flavio Milam, who scored 22 points to lead the Javelinas. Joining him in double figures was Royce Gaye, who scored 16 and Antwan Mullins added 12 in the win.
Brian Singleton scored a team-high 15 points to lead the Lions, who dropped their first contest of the season to fall to 4-1. Singleton was joined in double figures by Brad Hambrick with 14, Ronnie Morgan added 11 and Sammy Jackson scored 10.
The Lions took a 7-6 lead on a Cardell Hunter layup with 16:41 to go in the first half. 10 minutes later, A&M-Commerce managed to extend its lead to as much as seven, 20-13. The Javelinas came back to tie the game at 22 with a 9-2 run and the contest remained close for the remainder of the half as the teams entered the halftime break tied at 29.
The next game for the Lions is a non-conference game at Ouachita Baptist on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
