The Friends of Hagerman NWR have named Denison resident Callie Evans Photographer of the Month for December, 2009. A virtual album of twelve photos taken at the Refuge by Evans will be featured on the Friends website this month.
A native of Denison Texas, Callie Evans has been employed at Wilson N Jones Hospital since 1997, and has done volunteer work for the American Red Cross.
Evans has operated the cameras at her church, and says, ”I’m just an amateur photographer who likes to take pictures of nature and wildlife. I like taking pictures of hummingbirds, wildflowers, lighting storms, sunrises and sunsets.”
She uses a Canon PowerShot S5IS with 12X Optical zoom.
Evans was a participant in the first photo safari at the Refuge and says, “Hagerman happens to be one of the places I like to go and view all that nature has to offer. As a child we would go on Sunday afternoon rides and I remember riding around at the Refuge, being in awe of all the different birds and wild flowers, and just seeing things we didn't see in town. I also enjoy going to the Second Saturdays at Hagerman - a lot of different topics that are very interesting.”
