FORT WORTH, Texas – November 17, 2009 -- Stylemakers Salon (www.stylemakersalon.com) will host a pre-holiday wig donation drive November 27 through December 23 to benefit local women undergoing cancer treatment who participate in the American Cancer Society’s Look Good…Feel Better® program. During the wig drive, those who have a new or gently used wig they no longer need can trade it in for a gift certificate worth $50 dollars toward hair salon services at Stylemakers.

If donors would prefer a new wig instead, they can receive a discount worth $50 or more toward a new wig of their choice from Stylemakers’ large inventory of ready-to-wear wigs. The donor can “spin to win” via a prize wheel located at the front desk during the wig donation drive. Prizes on the wheel will include various discounts on a new wig and will even include the chance to win a free wig of their choice from Stylemakers’ ready-to-wear line, on display in its new private wig suite, located on the second floor of the salon.

"In the giving spirit of the holiday season, we think this is the perfect time to help local women undergoing cancer treatment," said Shelly Beatty, master stylist and owner of Stylemakers Salon.  "Those who donate can use their gift certificate to update or renew their style just in time for the holidays, and the American Cancer Society gets wigs that they can restore and give to women throughout the community who are in need. It's definitely a win-win for all involved."

Stylemakers Salon offers traditional hair salon services plus high-end specialty services, such as hair extensions, hair thinning solutions and custom and ready-to-wear wigs for those facing cancer, alopecia, trichotillomania, thyroid disorders and general hair loss.  As an official affiliate of the Hair Loss Control Clinic, Stylemakers is the only salon in the Fort Worth area offering laser hair therapy services to help stop hair loss and re-grow hair.

Look Good...Feel Better is a free, product-neutral, non-medical program that teaches beauty techniques to women cancer patients to help them combat the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. Offered in partnership with the American Cancer Society, the National Cosmetology Association and the Personal Care Products Council Foundation, Look Good...Feel Better is "like a makeover for the spirit." The full Stylemakers stylist team has been trained and serves as volunteer presenters for the Look Good…Feel Better program at various locations in Tarrant County.

The wig donations may be dropped off at Stylemakers Salon, located at 1201 West Lancaster in Fort Worth during their normal business hours: Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. To learn more about Stylemakers or to make an appointment, please go to www.stylemakersalon.com or call 817.332.9100.

About The American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer.  As a global grassroots force of more than three million volunteers, we fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community.  We save lives by helping people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early; helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight.  As the nation's largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing about $3.4 billion, we turn what we know about cancer into what we do.  As a result, more than 11 million people in America who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will be celebrating birthdays this year.  To learn more about us or to get help, call us any time, day or night, at 1.800.227.2345 or visit cancer.org.
