11 ’Roos earn All-SCAC football honors

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Austin College football team had 11 members selected as All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference for their outstanding play this season, the conference office announced today. The 11 honorees were led by 1st Team All-SCAC selections Austin Light, Greg Harrell and Evan Coachman.
Light, a junior offensive lineman from Collinsville helped anchor a line that paved the way for 227.4 rushing yards per game, making this the fourth straight season that the ’Roos have led the SCAC in rushing. Harrell, a sophomore wide receiver from Plano, had 31 receptions for 594 yards and seven touchdowns, which placed him among the conference leaders in his first season at Austin College.
Coachman, a junior safety from Frisco, makes the 1st Team after having been selected as a 2nd Team All-SCAC wide receiver last season. In his first year in the defensive backfield, Coachman led the team with 67 tackles, including three for loss, and was among the conference leaders with five interceptions returned for a total of 89 yards including one returned 74 yards for a touchdown.
Also being honored this season as 2nd Team All-SCAC selections were Ross Hasten, Andy Braly and John Reisig. Hasten, a senior running back from Lewisville, carried the ball 152 times for 743 yards and 10 touchdowns and added seven receptions for 76 yards and another score.
Braly, a senior quarterback from North Richland Hills, finished among the conference leaders in every passing category, completing 87-of-166 passes for 1,348 yards with 12 touchdowns against six interceptions. Braly added 593 rushing yards on 121 attempts and four touchdowns on the ground. Reisig, a senior kicker from Houston, was 28-of-29 for the year on extra points and 8-of-11 on field goals with a long of 37 yards.
Among those honored as Honorable Mention All-SCAC selections were Matt Finke, Phillip Gonzales, Tanner Martin, Tony Martinez and Greg Millerick. Finke, a senior defensive back from Denison, was second on the team with 61 tackles and had two interceptions returned for 100 yards with a 65 yard touchdown return and also returned a fumble 24 yards for a touchdown.
Gonzales, a freshman wide receiver from North Richland Hills, had 17 catches for 271 yards and a touchdown and added 40 rushing yards and a touchdown and averaging 20.4 yards on kick returns. Martinez, a senior offensive lineman from Fort Worth, captained the team and was the leader of the offensive line that was named to the D3Football.com Team of the Week earlier in the season and allowed 4.6 yards per carry with just nine sacks allowed.
Martin, a sophomore linebacker from Paris, was third on the team in tackles with 59 and had one interception on the season, and Millerick, a sophomore cornerback from Sherman made 33 tackles while adding two interceptions, a fumble recovery and a punt return average of 11.8 yards per return with a long of 50 yards.
Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
