Sophomore Tiffany Mitchell recorded her first career double double with 15 points and 12 rebounds as the Texas A&M University-Commerce women's basketball team dropped a 71-51 decision to No. 1 Michigan Tech on Saturday afternoon at Weiser Gym in Springfield, Missouri.

A&M-Commerce (0-2) got a strong effort from Mitchell and junior Mattilyn McIntyre was in double figures for a second-straight game with 14 points.

The Lions have not started the season with back-to-back losses since the 2003-04 campaign when they opened the year with consecutive defeats to Division I members Centenary and Texas-Arlington.

Michigan Tech (3-0) was led by All-American Katie Wysocky and Danae Danen who each scored a game-high 22 points for the Huskies in the win. Wysocky also had 11 rebounds and Danen added nine of her own.

The Lions defense held Michigan Tech to just 2 for 16 shooting from beyond the three-point line but the Huskies were near perfect from the free throw line making 13 of 15.

After a jumper by junior Genevieve Campbell cut the Lions¹ deficit to four, 14-10, with 9:50 left in the opening half, the Huskies answered with a game-deciding 14-4 run over the next seven minutes. Michigan Tech kept the lead at double digits for the remainder of the contest.

The Lions will return to action on Friday, November 27th at 7 pm when they travel to Texas A&M-Kingsville in a Lone Star Conference crossover game.
