Savoy Cardinals begin season with a win

The Savoy Cardinals got the season started with a bang Tuesday night doubling up the visiting team from Sulphur Bluff, 60-30.

The Cardinals jumped out to a quick 11-0 lead and finished the 1st quarter leading 12-6.  Both teams went back and forth in the second quarter and going into halftime the score was 27-17 Savoy. The Cardinals opened up the lead in the third quarter with an excellent defensive effort and went into the final quarter leading 43-25.

The Cardinals finished off their opponents in the 4th quarter, holding the visiting Bears to just 5 points and scoring 17 of their own to bring the final tally to 60-30.

The Cardinals were led by Justin Curry’s double double. He racked up 27 points and 10 rebounds. Giving aide to his effort in the victory was Cavan Metcalf 10 points, Scott Bigbee 8, John Morris 5, Jacob Rolen 4, and rounding out the scoring with 2 a piece was Spencer Franklin and Cameron Miller. The Cardinals' next action will be at S&S Friday at 7:00. 

Savoy JV Cardinals

The JV Cardinals began the season on a winning note defeating the visiting Bears of Sulphur Bluff 26-24. In a very tight game thru out the cardinals led at the end of 1 quarter 9-7. At the half the score was 16-15. To end the third the score was 21-22 Sulphur Bluff leading.  The final stanza saw the cardinals out duel their opponent to win 26-24. The Cardinals were led by Aaron Dugger and his 10 points. Also adding to the scoring totals was Adam Raley with 7, Hunter Franklin 7, and Dillon Foster with 2.
