Junior high basketball: Savoy Cardinals split games at Sam Rayburn

In junior high basketball action Monday night, the Savoy Cardinals split junior high boys games with the Sam Rayburn Rebels.

The B Team oys lost their contest, 17-6. The contest was very competitive most of the night. At the end of the first stanza the score was 4-0 Rebels. The rebels had widened the lead to 11-0 at the half, but in the third quarter the Cardinals cut into the lead making it 13-4. In the final stanza the Rebels out scored the Cardinals 4-2. The leading scorer for the Cardinals was Caleb Mitcheson with 4 and Sam Baca with 2.

In the A game the cardinals continued their early season winning streak extending their record to 2-0 with a 35-8 victory. The contest was never really in doubt, as at the end of one the score was 11-0 Cardinals. At the half the visiting Savoy team had stretched the lead to 24-6. The Cardinals kept up a very good defensive effort in the third holding the Rebels to 0 points while scoring 10 of their own. The final stanza saw the rebels out score the Cardinals 2-1, leaving the final score 35-8.

Leading scorers for the Cardinals was Braden Phillips with 12, Justin Berbuee with 14, Tristan Allen with 6, and rounding out the scoring was Tanner Garrison with 3.

The Cardinals next action will be at home November 30 at home vs. the Fannindel Falcons at 7:00.
