Grocery lists are being written, the good china is getting a bath, and friends and family will be arriving soon. As exciting as Thanksgiving can be it can also be exhausting as well.

We have some excellent Young Adult fiction to choose from. Here is a review by Teen Council member, Miss Aaron Emdy: Title Reviewed: Skin Hunger by Kathleen Duey.
The main character, Hahp, is sent to become a wizard by his father, who is abusive and not the least bit fatherly. Becoming a wizard is grueling, and there is less than a 1 out of 10 chance of becoming one. At the same time, the story explains how magic was re-founded through Sadima, a girl who can understand animal’s thoughts.
Did you learn anything from this book? People don’t know starvation until they’ve been without food for more than a week and complete starvation is a slow tortuous way to die.
Who would you recommend the book to? Someone who can handle a more somber, almost sickening story; someone who recognizes that much is learned through suffering.
Was there anything special, unique or different about this book? The author didn’t hold back. Evil things happen in the world, and she wasn’t afraid to write down such acts. Not all authors will give the sickening details like this one.
