Bells -- The new gym at Bells High School attracted its second playoff volleyball contest in five days when the Prairiland Lady Patriots and the Aubrey Lady Chaparrals tangled Tuesday night in a Region II-2A Quarterfinal match.
Aubrey featured an experienced line-up of nine seniors out of 11 players on their roster, while Prairiland countered with a young team with only three seniors on the squad.
In the end, a veteran Aubrey team led by 6'0" senior middle blocker Jac Bullock and backed by a very athletic supporting cast just had too much firepower for Prairiland.
Bullock set the tone of the evening with seven kills in game one as the Lady Chaparrals controlled the action in a 25-11 win.
In game two, Aubrey seniors Jennifer Robbins, Kelly Guttuso and Jamie Teague all turned in nice kills in a 25-14 victory.
In game three, Prairiland pulled even at 4-4 on a kill by Kelti Mowery and the Lady Patriots took a two-point lead after Brittany Black and Kaylee Oats knocked down kills. But Aubrey battled back with Robbins rocking the Lady Patriots for three quick kills and an ace that gave the Lady Chaparrals an 11-9 advantage and momentum.
Aubrey got a kill from sophomore Kayla Bernard and then Bullock took over with four kills in rapid succession to put the Lady Chaparrals in control. Aubrey went on to win the third game, 25-16.
Jac Bullock banged down a match-high 16 kills to pace the Aubrey attack, with teammates Jennifer Robbins and Kelly Guttuso finishing with eight kills and seven kills, respectively. Jamie Teague tallied three kills.
For Prairiland, Taylor Skidmore slammed down four kills, followed by Kelti Mowery with three kills. Sara Beth Upchurch, Kaylee Oats and Brittany Black each came up with two kills against the stingy Aubrey defense.
The Prairiland Lady Patriots end a very successful season with a 32-11 record.
Aubrey improves to 34-9 and advances to the Region II-2A Tournament where the Lady Chaparrals will face Crawford in one semifinal match.
The other Region II-2A Semifinal contest will pit Pottsboro against No. 8 Quitman.
