Car Show and Bike Run huge success for Tom Bean SADD

The Whitewright Fall Festival brought candy to the eyes of classic car holders.  Tom Bean SADD Club members hosted a car show and bike run on Saturday included with the festival.  Students helped hand out door prizes, trophies and awards.   

Charlie White, owner of red1963 Ford Falcon, commented that it was a “very nice show.”  Fred Erben, owner of a 1965 honey gold Mustang said, “We liked having it at a festival so there’s food and other things going on.”

Debbie Yates, SADD Sponsor in charge of the car show, said, “Wow, the show turned out to be so nice, it ran very smoothly.  We appreciate all of the car owners and bikers that participated for our students.” 

People’s Choice Award, which is voted on by the car participants, went to Leland and Esther Hale of Tom Bean.  Keith Hayes of Greenville took away the Best of Show trophy, for a second time.  A new award, called the Principal’s Choice, was given to Bill and Pat Ledbetter of Gainesville.   

The Top 20 Awards were given to the following car owners:  Al Richmond, Billy & Theresa Hockett, Billy Carter, Charlie White, Clyde Todd, Dale Truitt, Dan Whitmore, Fred Erben, Gaines Babb, Gene Ray, Herb & Ruth Schroeder, James England, James McCarty, James Melton, Kevin Embry, Mack Rogers, Robert Mears, Terry Higgs, Tom Patti, and Vern Mynatt. 

A bike run was also scheduled during the festival, with Charles Wilks winning a Family Pack Dinner from Cackle and Oink.  Riders had to pick up a card decorated by SADD students, take it to Land’s Western Wear and Bike Apparel in Sherman, get a ticket and return it to the bike registration table. 

Proceeds go to help SADD students attend leadership camp at San Angelo University in the summer.  Ms. Yates has attended for 8 years in a row, taking students that belong to SADD.  “They learn how to take leadership roles in their young lives," she explains, "and to believe in themselves.  In addition, they become acquainted with the dangers of alcohol and drugs.”
