BONHAM --  Where has the time gone?  Can you believe how quickly we are moving into this year’s holiday season?  It is only a little over a month and a half until many folks favorite holiday: Christmas.   This time of year we all begin to get so wrapped up in buying presents and decorations, that sometimes the true meaning of Christmas gets little or no thought in our busy lives.

However, millions believe that a little over two thousand years ago, in a stable in the tiny town of Bethlehem, a baby was born that changed the world.  This Christmas Season area churches join together to celebrate that birth – the birth of Jesus Christ.

For the 7th year, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will again host the annual Multi-Faith Crèche (Nativity) Exhibit, beginning December 4 through December 6.  Bonham’s First United Methodist Church joins the Latter-day Saints in this presentation to be held in the Bonham Ward Chapel at 1540 S. Highway 78, just two miles south of the Bonham Square.

Imagine thousands of tiny white lights illuminating over 500 different depictions of the birth of Jesus Christ – Nativity scenes collected from all over the world.

A common comment by visitors from years past is: “I just can’t believe there are so many different representations of the same scene!”

“Each year we strive to make the exhibit even more special and spiritual,” stated chairperson Sandy Parten.  “This year is no exception. We have just about every style and type of nativity you can think of - from a simple children’s book to a scene so large it takes up one entire table. One of my personal favorites is a picture of Mary’s husband, Joseph, holding the baby he will raise as his son.”

The exhibit is free and open to everyone.   Opening Friday, December 4 at 10 a.m. (to 9 p.m.), a Christmas Cantata “A King is Born” will be presented at 7 p.m., featuring the First United Methodist Church Bell Choir, The Red River Sweet Adelines, and The Bonham Ward Choir.   A reception will follow the cantata.  Saturday hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a live (via satellite) broadcast of The Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s Christmas Broadcast at 7 p.m.

“We invite everyone to visit, and start their holiday season with this special event” stated Parten.
