Fort Worth, TX — Fort Worth residents can have their personal papers shredded for free at the City of Fort Worth’s annual Shred Day. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at Greenstar Fort Worth’s facilities 1100 NE 23rd St. in Fort Worth. The event, which is Fort Worth’s way of recognizing the statewide celebration of Texas Recycles Day, is co-sponsored by City of Fort Worth and Greenstar Fort Worth.
Residents may bring up to five mid-size boxes of personal papers to Greenstar’s recycling center for shredding on the day of the event. A mid-size box measures approximately 10” x 12” x 17” and is the size of a standard 10-ream box of 8 ˝” x 11” copy paper. Each box should weigh less than 50 pounds each. The event is for residents’ private papers only. Paper waste generated from businesses will not be accepted.
“This is an excellent chance for residents’ to have their personal papers safely shredded by a professional recycling company,” said Brian Boerner, director of the city’s Environmental Management Department. “We hear stories every day about the dangers of identity theft by people who rifle through the personal papers that residents throw out in their garbage. This is a secure and convenient alternative solution for getting rid of those papers.”
In 2008, more than 500 city residents participated in the City’s Shred Day event by contributing more than two tons of paper to be shredded.
