A&M-Commerce defeats Arkansas-Monticello in straight sets

The Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball team won its 23rd match of the season with a straight-set win over host Arkansas-Monticello on Monday night in Magnolia, Arkansas.
A&M-Commerce (23-8) posted win number 23 on the season to match the 2002, 1988 and 1978 squads for the fifth-most wins in a season in school history. To lead the attack was junior Naomi Mays, who had a match-high 11 kills as A&M-Commerce hit at a .228 clip in the win.
Southern Arkansas (15-17) hit only .096 in the defeat. No player had more than five kills and Vikki Crisco had 12 assists and two of her teammates had seven digs.
The Lions took advantage of a season-high 12 service aces including five each from freshman Reagan Hayes and a career-high from senior Perla Faudoa. Senior Lauren Flynn added 19 digs and Faudoa added 35 assists in the win.
Mays led the Lions to a 25-15 win in the first set as she had six of her 11 kills. In the second set, A&M-Commerce won by a 25-18 margin and Hayes and Faudoa combined for five service aces as well as Mays and freshman Rachel Robertson each had three kills. In the decisive third set, senior Alyssa Oberle and Hayes had four kills and Flynn added 12 digs to lead the Lions.
It is the 13th straight-set win for the Lions, who will wrap up the regular
season on Thursday at 7 pm against East Central and Saturday at 2 pm at Southeastern Oklahoma State at the A&M-Commerce Field House.
