Lucas, Texas resident Mark H. Barratt has completed the project of a lifetime, a five-book series called The Guardian of Heaven that began as a mere idea when he was a teenager.
“The concept for this story first occurred to me when I was boy of 16 hiking in the mountains of Alaska. At first I thought it was just another random idea but the inspiration to write these books on this subject has stayed with me and affected me for decades. Finally, after years of organizing the story in my mind, I began writing in 2001. I completed the series in 2008 and was amazed to realize that the story spanned five 300-plus page volumes,” said Mark.
“The series is about the two witnesses who stand in Jerusalem at the end of our civilization. The basis for the books are found in Revelations 11:3-12. More specifically the books are about one of these two prophets and his path through life to the ultimate battle of our world,” Mark added.
“Since completing the series I have been at peace with myself and my God. I know the books have a purpose, but I still don’t know what that purpose is,” Mark said.
When asked about reader response to The Guardian of Heaven series, Mark replied, “Most of my readers can’t put the books down. The characters in my books are basically patterned after the lives of real and very good people. Many people identify strongly with those characters and their predicaments. It is amazing to me how many people have had experiences almost identical with my characters and reading the books is like reading about themselves.”
When asked if he plans to write more books, Mark replied, “I don’t know. I am not a writer but an engineer by profession. It is very difficult and tedious for me to write. I will leave the question open to the future.”

Mark lives with his wife Carol and their children in Lucas. They own and operate The Surrey House and Gardens in McKinney (http://www.surreyhs.com/)
