Paris -- They're gonna have to stop meeting like this.
At least the other teams in District 10-3A wish they could do something to stop Paris and Van Alstyne from meeting in the showcase game every year.
Paris dispatched Bonham 50-6 and Van Alstyne slipped by North Lamar 27-21 to sent up a repeat of last year's deciding game in District 10-3A.
Paris won this face-off last season, but this year the Wildcats will have to travel to Van Alstyne on Friday night to try and pick up a win in the Panther's den.
Against Bonham on Friday night, Paris went up 14-0 in the first quarter, returned a pair of interceptions for touchdowns in the second stanza to stretch their lead to 35-0 at intermission, and cruised to a 50-6 victory in the final game at 68-year-old Noyes Stadium.
The game's first score came when Paris running back Aaron Ethridge got around the right end and raced 37 yards down the sideline to pay dirt.
Bonham's offense had trouble with the quicker Wildcat defense and a low snap and muffed punt gave Paris a first-and-10 at the Bonham 23-yard line. The Wildcats went up 14-0 a few plays later when Paris sophomore signal caller Corbin Taylor followed his big offensive line into the end zone from one yard out.
The Bonham offense showed signs of life on the next drive with standout sophomore Levi Haggard running for a nice gain. Warrior quarterback Kyle Washington got outside the Wildcat defense for another big play. Bonham running back Braylon Mitchell blasted up the middle as the Warriors began to find their stride. But Paris cornerback Cory Battle picked off a pass in the flats and raced 87 yards to make the score 21-0.
Paris pushed the lead to 28-0 on a short run by Tyrell Smith and the Wildcats went up 35-0 when Equettis Jenkins went high in the air to pick off a halfback pass and ran it back forty yards for a TD.
Bonham seemed to catch a big break early in the second half when Chris Rich pounced on a Paris fumble, but the Warrior offense went three-and-out and the Wildcats went back to work.
Taylor hit Tevin Gray on a short pass and Gray sprinted 80 yards to make the score 41-0. A low snap on the PAT turned into two points when the holder outran the Bonham defense to the corner of the end zone and Paris held a commanding 43-0 advantage.
Early in the fourth quarter, Taylor connected with Tevairus Williams on a 14-yard scoring strike to push the lead to 50-0.
Bonham's lone score came on a 30-yard sweep around the left end by Chase Gregory with 47 seconds showing on the clock.
Bonham will go for their first win next Friday when Anna comes to Bonham. Anna will be riding high after a 14-0 victory over Commerce.
Commerce (1-3) will try to bounce back against North Lamar (2-2). A win by North Lamar would give them the Division I playoff berth.
But all eyes will be on the new stadium at Van Alstyne, where Paris (4-0) and Van Alstyne (4-0) will collide in the game of the year in District 10-3A.
