The most exciting district race in memory came to a close Tuesday night with five teams battling for the top three spots in the last match of the District 10-3A schedule.
When the dust cleared, the Commerce Tigers had swept Paris to clinch the number one seed out of District 10-3A, with Paris earning the number two seed. Both teams finished district 8-2. The two Paris losses came at the hands of Commerce, while Commerce dropped decisions to Van Alstyne and North Lamar. Actually, Paris and Commerce have faced each other three times in 2009 and Commerce won all three contests.
In the other District 10-3A match with playoff implications, Van Alstyne slipped by Bonham, 3-2.
Van Alstyne and North Lamar both finish the season 5-5, so those two teams will square off Friday at 5:00 p.m. in Dodd City in a play-in match to determine which team advances to the playoffs as the third seed out of District 10-3A.
