North Texas History Center presents Battle for Myers Landing, Civil War re-enactment Nov. 7-8

McKINNEY, Texas (October 26, 2009) – Step back in time to the 1860's as the North Texas History Center, in partnership with the Collin County Historical Commission presents the Battle for Myers Landing, A Civil War Re-enactment from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 7-8, at Myers Park and Event Center. Hundreds of re-enactors will portray what life was like in camp, on the homefront, and on the battlefield.

"We have about 300 re-enactors, 10 artillery pieces, as well as two medical wagons registered," said Bryan Lean, senior curator at the NTHC. "We expect many more participants to show up that weekend."



Visitors will be able to experience the sights and sounds of cannons, cavalry, infantry, authentic period military camps, vendors, concerts by a Confederate brass band, and much more.

"In addition to a battle each day at 1 p.m., there will be opportunities for the public to talk with soldiers in their camps, and learn about different trades and ways of life from other re-enactors and period vendors," said Vicki Day, executive director at the NTHC.



Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for seniors, and $3 for children. Parking is $2.Tickets can be bought in advance or purchased at the event (cash only). Since 1957, the Collin County Historical Society has been dedicated to preserving and collecting items related to North Texas history.
