SHERMAN, TEXAS—Spanish playwright Jose Moreno Arenas will visit Austin College October 30 to share information on his work. He will offer a lecture, in Spanish, “Teatro indigesto: el humor, algo muy serio,” (translation “Indigestible plays: Humor is something very serious”) at 11 a.m. in Wright Campus Center, Room 231. Austin College faculty member Lourdes Bueno, who is coordinating the Austin College visit, said the lecture will focus upon Arenas’ “dramatic fleas,” which Bueno described as mini-plays with a very strong sarcasm and social criticism. A stage-reading of one of the writer’s plays will follow, presented by Austin College students and alumni.

That afternoon, the theater troupe Teatre´ves Teatro will offer a performance of The Perfect Human, performed in Spanish and formed by four of Arenas’ short plays. The presentation will be at 4 p.m. in Wynne Chapel. All elements of Arenas’ Austin College visit are free and open to the public.

The theater troupe also will perform October 29 at the Latino Cultural Center in Dallas and on October 31 at the Dallas Public Library.
