Commerce, Texas -- The Texas A&M University-Commerce Silver Leos Writing Club launched the "Collection of Memories for OLD E.T.," which kicked off at Homecoming on Oct. 10 for a forthcoming anthology.

Story submissions, ranging from 500 to 1,500 words, are to be about the institution from its founding in 1889 until its affiliation with The Texas A&M University System in 1996.

Members of the new writing club issued invitations for stories at the
tailgate party and at alumni meetings on campus during homecoming events.

The club editorial committee will select submissions for the publication, which is to be completed within the next year.

Submitted stories must include the writer's name, mailing and e-mail
address, telephone number, and word count. The preferred format is to be double-spaced, in 12-point Times New Roman.

"Don't feel like you need to be a polished writer to contribute," said Earl Stubbs, silver leo writing club vice president. "You tell the story, and we will do the editing. Send in stories, anecdotes that portray memorable experiences of campus life, professors, building, social, and athletic events during the E.T. era."

Stories are to be submitted to

dstolusky@embarqmail.com, bobharper1@verizon.net or wellslavonne@msn.com.

The Silver Leos began as a graduate course in memoir writing taught by Dr. Fred Tarpley during the 2009 spring semester. By the end of the course, many of the students chose to form a writing club. Silver Leos holds monthly meetings in the universityıs alumni center for writing critiques by members and guest speaker presentations.

Lavonne Wells serves as president, Stubbs as vice president, and Tarpley as an advisor. Bobby Harper chairs the committee on special projects that will be publishing the collection of E.T. memories.
