By media release
Oct 3, 2009
Get ready for entertainment, local history, a 42 tournament, an antique tractor show and much more as Honey Grove celebrates its annual Davy Crockett Festival on Saturday, October 3.
Mill Grove General Store open for tours!

The Mill Grove General Store will be open from 10:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m. during the Davy Crockett Festival. The Honey Grove Preservation League is working to create an historical museum, using the old general store.
Through the generosity of the owner, Walcott Black, this tiny corner of Americana will be open to the public for tours. Enter on S. 5th Street (just past Market) and step back in time. The many items will remind some of “the good ole days” and will give youngsters a glimpse of the past. Donations will be accepted at the door.

PUMPKIN PATCH PHOTO OP!! – The Friends of the Library are hosting this fantastic “photo op.” All are welcome to bring their own cameras and use the beautiful fall backdrop for taking pictures of kids of all ages!! Look for the “Patch” on N. 6th Street, just outside the Library. It will be open all day.
LIVE ENTERTAINMENT -- There will be two stages this year. The NORTH STAGE will be located at just north of the civic center on N. 6th Street. There you hear the Fannin County Community Band 10:00.
Then at 10:30 we will be treated with a reenactment of “David Crockett’s Last Letter” by Gary Sisson. Following “the letter,” Gary will be joined by other members of the Red River Theater Company, Allison Cardile and Lanny Joe Burnett. The trio will present songs and a smattering of Texas history. The group will perform at 10:30, 12:00, 1:30 and 2:30.
At 11:00 on the north stage enjoy the stories of Roger Harris. Roger can spin a yarn, just about as good as anybody I ever heard. At 11:30 Delbert Sessums will take the stage and give us a treat with his music.
Something new this year. From 12:30 to 1:30 on the north stage will be “OPEN MIC” for anyone who wants to get up on stage and show off their talent. So come on down local talent and strut your stuff. For one hour the stage is yours to sing, dance, and play, read poetry or whatever you want to do.
ON THE SOUTH STAGE - this stage is going be south of the Post Office. At 1:00 p.m. “Mr. Rock & Roll”, Larry Schone will perform. He will be playing and singing old time “Rock n Roll”, plus good old, foot stomping, country and gospel music. Come sing along or just sit back and enjoy the music. Larry will entertain us until 3:00 p.m.
And, you won’t want to miss all the announcements at 3:00. We will name the winners of the Chamber of Commerce $300.00 Gift Card to Wal-Mart, the winner of the Chamber of Commerce 50/50 Cash Give-Away, the winners of the Davy Crockett Look Alike Contest and the winners of the Antique Tractor Show. Please note there will not be a Little Miss Crockett Contest this year.
