For the first time since the program began two years ago, an Oklahoma resident has been named  Photographer of the Month for October by the Friends of Hagerman.  Bill Adams, of Tishomingo, will have an album of twelve photos, all taken at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge, featured on the Friends’ website, www.friendsofhagerman.com,  this month.

Adams says he has only been birding about 5 years.  Needing a way to examine birds better inspired him to experiment with photography.  Interested in photography since 1999, he started with a Minolta x-700 film camera.  Now, Adams has a Canon 40D with a Canon 500mm and 100-400mm lenses in order to capture photos of birds.  He discovered Hagerman a few years ago, but has only been visiting actively for a year.  He really enjoys seeing the warbler species, as well as find excitement in photographing the water birds.

At present, Adams is an Instructional Technology Specialist at Murray State College in Tishomingo, Oklahoma.  He also serves as a committee member for the annual Arbuckle-Simpson Nature Festival.

Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge is located on the Big Mineral Arm of Lake Texoma and offers year around photo opportunities, as well as other activities.  Information about photo  submission  and upcoming events at the Refuge can also be found on the Friends website.
