OCTOBER 29th: NO tights or tutu's on this night! The company's construction of ballet is more like a giant dance party than Swan Lake! It integrates elements of salsa, rumba, flamenco, jazz, and a whole array of other Latino dance styles with contemporary and classical ballet forms. The result is an combination of sizzling hot hip-shaking, grace, and all the theatricality of the tango. They have definitely captured the heart and soul of the Latin culture by weaving ballet and intoxicating Hispanic dance techniques into fiery contemporary works. In fact, their repertoire features a strikingly original “vocabulary” that combines the attitudes and energies of street dance, the shapes of modern dance, and the linear clarity of classical ballet. This exceptionally talented crew of professional dancers from New York couldn’t be better suited to pull it off.

Since its inception, BALLET HISPANICO has roused audiences worldwide with its magnetic energy and vivacious choreography. Under the watchful eye of Artistic Director Eduardo Vilaro, its 13 members perform works by the foremost Latino choreographers of our time as well as those of emerging artists. Their style creates a new sphere of concert dance propelled by passion. Over 77 pieces have been commissioned for the Company, conveying a spirit of pride and affinity to audiences in the millions.
When Tina Ramirez founded BALLET HISPANICO nearly 40 years ago, she intended simply to give inner city Hispanics a “voice in dance.” The company has since flourished to more than a voice – it’s an exclamation that’s been heard loud and clear around the world. This troupe has performed for over 2 million people, throughout 11 countries, on 3 continents. Their Texarkana performance marks one of only two performances in the South on this tour.
Tickets for BALLET HISPANICO are $45, $41, $36, $32*, and $8 with group and half-price* student discounts. Visit the Historic Perot Theatre Box Office, Corner of Third and Main Streets in Downtown Texarkana Monday – Friday from 10am – 5pm or call 903.792.4992. Buy online anytime at www.trahc.org.
