Synonymous with science are health and the medical community making Baylor Medical Center at Frisco a perfect partner for this inaugural exhibit in Frisco. “We’re honored to support this effort, and to work with organizations as well-run as Sci-Tech and the Junior League of Plano,” said William Keaton, CEO of Baylor Medical Center at Frisco. “Supporting this exhibit is a natural fit with our mission of community service and education. We hope children and adults walk out with a better understanding of their bodies and become inspired to take their health into their own hands. It’s a blessing to have a top-notch exhibit like this in the Frisco community.”

“Engaging regional technology, engineering, math and science corporations like Baylor Medical Center at Frisco is critical to meet the mission of Sci-Tech Discovery Center. It is important to inspire and support the next generation of doctors, innovators, engineers and researchers,” states Erica Yaeger, Executive Director of Sci-Tech Discovery Center.
The popular exhibit, Grossology is based on the best-selling book. Grossology: The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body is science in disguise, allowing children to experience many aspects of the human body first hand, such as, a climbing wall of human skin, a larger than life nose tour, and an interactive 30 model of the digestive system. Sometimes it’s stinky; sometimes it’s crusty; and sometimes it’s slimy, but it’s your body.
Frisco Mayor Maher Maso is an advocate for the project stating, “Sci-Tech Discovery Center will give children a ‘hands on’, interactive experience promoting science, discovery and fun! Every day, we’re impacted by someone’s curiosity, which ultimately leads to invention. We’re excited about helping develop a new generation of explorers. The City of Frisco’s partnership with Sci-Tech Discovery is another example of our community’s creative, ‘can do’ spirit – an essential for any innovator,” continues Maso.
On October 1, an exhibit sneak peak fundraiser will be hosted onsite to raise funds for education outreach and ongoing exhibits. Tickets are $50 and include an evening of fabulous food, special spirits, plush prizes, exuberant entertainment and convivial contests in your casual chic clothes. Reservations are required and can be made at rsvp@mindstretchingfun.org
Sci-Tech Discovery Center began as the brainchild of the Junior League of Plano in 1999 to meet the community’s demand for an innovative discovery center. Today, it is a local non-profit that has been bringing various discovery programs to community centers, libraries, schools and scout groups across Collin County. The organization hosted two successful preview exhibits in the summers of 2004 and 2005 at the Shops of Willow Bend that gave more than 30,000 visitors a peek at these experimental learning opportunities.
