It's almost fall but the McKinney Farmers Market just keeps growing!

McKinney, TX  -- The Historic Downtown Farmers Market at Chestnut Square just keeps getting better!

"During this second year of the Market we've added not only new vendors but new product categories at the McKinney Farmers Market," Cindy Johnson, Market Manager and Chestnut Square Executive Director.  "We're really one stop shopping for local foods!"

The following vendors have been added during the 2009 season:

Aint No Mo Butter Cakes:  These little bundt cakes pack a wallop!  Well known throughout the metroplex, these cakes are now available at the McKinney Farmers Market!  The reason there aint no mo butter is because it's all in the cakes the Browns have made fresh for the market!

Lucido Organic Herbs, Sauces and Pasta:  John Lucido's love for growing herbs and produce began when he was 5 years old. His father gave each of his 9 sons a tiny plot on their strawberry farm to grow whatever they wanted. That started a lifelong love of planting and watching them thrive. Since then John has always had a passion for growing produce and herbs on his farm located in Copper Canyon, Texas.  Today, people who visit the McKinney Farmers Market can purchase a variety of Lucido's products and share in the tradition.

Luscombe Farm:  Luscombe Farm was established in 1913. Their Texas Best Jalapeno Jelly recipe was passed down and made for friends, family and has been sold in many bazaars and gift baskets. Now these wonderful jellies are availalbe at the McKinney Farmers Market!

Texas Olive Oil Ranch:  With an orchard between Carrizo Springs and Asherton in the Middle Rio Grande Valley, north of Laredo, south of San Antonio, east of Eagle Pass, Texas Oil Oil  grows and cold presses arbequina olives for the freshest, most flavorful extra virgin olive available in Texas.  They also offer stuffed olives and various infused balsamic vinegars.

On Pure Ground:  Forgotten for 100 years, hidden away in the aromatic cedars of North Texas are 52 pristine acres nestled against a private lake. It is here that Cheryl's family began its natural dairy farm, on pure ground.  All their cheeses are hand-made in small batches in the tradition of farmstead cheese-making.  Some of their most popular flavors include cranberry almond, rosemary garlic and Texas twister!

Small Potatoes Catering:  Becky Watts has joined the McKinney Farmers Market with her newest creation:  fresh sorbets.  Mixing fruits and herbs she's created the a delightful new and healthy dessert to add to your market bag.

Sweet and Savory:  Martha Tracy has added tantalizing baked goods to the Farmers Market!  Her cookies, cakes, scones and more are so good they sometimes don't make it home!

Twisted Pepper:  Get everything you need to prepare your meats, make your dips and flavor your recipes at Twisted Pepper's booth at the McKinney Farmers Market.  Offering low salt, fresh alternatives to standard seasonings!

Coming soon, Landon Winery will offer wine tasting and wine sales at the market.

"The new law changes in effect September 1 in Texas allow us to sell at Farmers Markets.  This offers us a great venue to show the improving quality of our Texas wines," Bob Landon of Landon Winery said.

While you're at the McKinney Farmers market enjoy local entertainment, face painting and breakfast!  Chestnut Square offers guided tours of the historic structures on site at 11:00 a.m. each Saturday and Dixie's Store is open with fun crafts and old-fashioned toys and candy.

September 17 is the last day to vote for the McKinney Farmes Market in the Local Harvest and Care 2 "Love Your Farmers Market Contest".  The McKinney Farmers Market is currently rated #68 in the nation!  Here's what one voter said about the Market:

Terrific atmosphere under the trees among the buildings of our historic village. It's almost like going back in time, except early McKinney settlers didn't have the gourmet options we have. Great variety, friendly people, it's the perfect Saturday morning outing.
