DENTON (UNT), Texas -- Mariangela Vacatello, who wowed audiences this summer as a finalist in the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, will perform at the University of North Texas this month in three public events.

Watch a free public rehearsal of Vacatello practicing with the UNT Symphony Orchestra at 2:15 p.m. Sept. 28 (Monday). On that same day, Vacatello will share her expertise with UNT College of Music students at 4:30 p.m. in a piano master class, also free and open to the public for observation.

"Mariangela Vacatello is an exciting young artist with a warm, enthusiastic personality," said Dr. Steven Harlos, coordinator of piano and collaborative piano at the UNT College of Music. "I think the students will benefit greatly from her visit and from hearing her beautiful playing in person."

Her residency at UNT culminates in a performance of Franz Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 1 with the UNT Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of David Itkin, at 8 p.m. Sept. 30 (Wednesday). The program also includes Carlos Chavez's Sinfonia India and Cesar Franck's Symphony in D minor. Tickets are $20 for adults; $15 for seniors, UNT faculty and staff; $10 for non-UNT students; and free to UNT students with ID.

All events take place in Winspear Performance Hall of the Murchison Murchison Performing Arts Center, located along the north side of Interstate 35E at North Texas Boulevard. The events are part of the UNT Fine Arts Series.
