On Monday, September 14, 2009 the Tom Bean City Council met in a Regular Session.  Mayor Sherry E. Howard presented the Employee of the Month award to City Secretary Cathy Pugh for her outstanding service in assisting the mayor with the budget for the upcoming year. 

A public hearing was held on the 2009 tax rate along with acting upon the tax rate for fiscal year 2009.  A 2009-2010 tax rate ordinance was also on the agenda for the council to review/accept.  The City Council also approved the new budget for the upcoming 2009-2010 year of which a budget workshop was held two weeks ago to review/comment/update/revise.

The Council voted five (5) for and none (0) opposed to nominate Curtis Snow – City Manager, City of Kaufman, to the Board of Trustees – TML Region 13 for a term of office October 1, 2009 – September 30, 2012.

Staff report was given by Sergeant Barrett of the Police Department.  National Night Out plans were discussed for Saturday, October 3 in which the caravan would be coming through Tom Bean around 4:15.  Hot dogs, chips and drinks along with a very large bounce house for the kids will be provided to the citizens.  The Mayor gave the report for the Public Works Department and reported that Kenneth Ramsey had been added full-time as of two weeks ago and both he and David Phillips are now reporting directly to her with daily status meetings.

The regular session was adjourned at 6:43 p.m. on Monday, September 14, 2009.  The motion carried.    

After the meeting, the council and Mayor Howard met for a photo session.  New council members include Donnie Achimon, Lisa Collins, Mike Upchurch, Janet Schaab and Jerry Harris.
