First Baptist Church, Stephenville will be hosting a Memorial Organ Concert in honor of Davis Waggener featuring Dr. Joyce Jones, Professor of Organ at Baylor University. The concert will be held on Sunday, September 13, at 6:00 PM in the First Baptist Church Worship Center.  Admission is free.

Davis Waggener, long time resident of Stephenville and member of First Baptist Church, donated an organ to First Baptist Church in 1987 as a gift to the church in memory of his father.   Built by Range Organ Company, the massive pipe organ features 34 ranks. (A rank is a row of pipes mounted on a windchest.) The pipework  was obtained from Leeds, United Kingdom.  Dr. Jones performed the dedication recital at First Baptist Church on January 21, 1990.

Dr. Jones is the Joyce Oliver Bowden Professor of Organ and Organist in Residence at Baylor University in Texas, which also named her Outstanding Creative Artist. She earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Texas and a Master of Sacred Music degree in composition from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, which presented her with its Distinguished Service Award in 1989. She made her professional debut with the Dallas Symphony as winner of the G.B. Dealey Award, and has performed concerts throughout the U.S. with international tours of Canada, Mexico, Japan, and Europe. She has recorded for Word, Rosenhaus, and Motette Records, and is a Fellow of the American Guild of Organists.  She is the composer of numerous published works, including the organ method “King of Instruments.”

Wherever she plays, she is committed to making friends for the organ.

Wherever she goes, she is committed to sharing her Christian testimony through music.
