The Canterbury Episcopal School, nestled in thirty-seven beautiful acres in the heart of DeSoto is well-known for their college preparatory program and their highly qualified faculty and staff. Joining Canterbury’s teaching faculty in the Lower School this year is Ms. Erin Howe. Ms. Howe will be teaching 1st grade and is a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill and went on to earn a Masters in Teaching with a concentration in grades K-6. Last year Erin worked with the first grade team at Greenhill School as a teaching fellow.
Teaching 2nd grade is Ms. Sarah Richardson. Ms. Richardson is a graduate of Greenhill School, received her B.A. from Rhodes College, and completed the Greenhill teaching internship program. Ms. Richardson is currently working toward her Masters in Education.
Ms. Haley Feuerbacher’s talents will be put to use in all grades at Canterbury. Ms. Feuerbacher will be teaching P.E. in grades K-3, Upper School Health, and will be coaching the Middle and Varsity soccer teams. Haley graduated summa cum laude from the Honors Program at Baylor University as a University Scholar. Haley was also a member of the regional champion Baylor Women’s Club Soccer Team. After completing her B.A., Haley attended Vanderbilt Divinity School and Brite Divinity School, earning an M.T.S.
Joining a uniquely talented Fine Arts department, Mrs. Chancey Canon will be teaching art in Grades 4 – 6th. Having taught Spanish previously at Canterbury, Mrs. Canon will be inspiring students in the arts this year. Mrs. Canon earned her B.A. in Art from The University of Texas at Austin in 2000. She has interned with the Education Department of The Austin Museum of Art, After Image Gallery, Geoff Kern Photography and has been a volunteer at the Dallas Museum of Art.
Mrs. Lori Jones will be joining the faculty teaching 6th grade Language Arts. Mrs. Jones earned a Bachelor of Arts with secondary certification in English from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, and her Master of Arts in Composition and Rhetoric from Texas Tech University.
Canterbury’s Middle and Upper School welcomes an equally talented group of educators. Dr. Michael Caulder will be teaching 7th grade Science, Algebra, and Geometry. Dr. Caulder is originally from Liverpool, England, and is a graduate of London University with a teaching certificate and has a doctoral degree from Parker College. Dr. Caulder also represented the United States rugby team all over the world including the first World Cup in Australia, and will be returning as part of Canterbury’s Rugby coaching staff again this year.
Mr. Josh Harper joins the Technology Department, and will be instructing grades 7, 8, & 11, as well as returning as the coach of Canterbury’s Varsity baseball team. Mr. Harper earned is Bachelor's degree in Professional Development, and started on the Varsity baseball team all four years in college.
Dr. Ronnie J. (Doc) Hastings joins Canterbury this year as part of the Math and Science Department and will be teaching Calculus and Physics. Dr. Hastings received his B.S. in physics from Texas A&M University. Participating in nuclear physics research and experimentation at A&M's Cyclotron Institute, he earned his Ph.D. in physics in 1972, contributing experimentally and theoretically to the development of a gamma ray imaging device used today in medical research and diagnosis. Dr. Hastings taught for 32 years in Waxahachie ISD, inspiring two generations of students eager to learn and further their understanding of math and science.
At Canterbury, Spanish is a mandatory part of the curriculum beginning in Kindergarten. Mrs. Michele Kelly will complete the four member team of Canterbury’s Spanish department, and will be teaching Spanish in Grades 7th and 8th.
Michele attended college in Iowa and graduated with a B.S. She served with CAM International as a missionary in Costa Rica where she studied Spanish and graduated from El Instituto de Español. Mrs. Kelly is currently working towards her M. Ed.
Luke Longacre is the final addition to Canterbury’s outstanding faculty and will be teaching Performing Arts. Mr. Longacre earned his BFA in musical theater from the nationally known University of Oklahoma Musical Theater program. Luke has worked extensively on and off Broadway with theater professionals like Susan Stroman, director of The Producers, Nathan Lane, Uma Thurman, and Twyla Tharp. His credits include working with the Rockettes in Radio City, and with the Disney companies.
Beginning the seventeenth year of operation, The Canterbury Episcopal School is a faith-based, college preparatory school whose mission is to inspire in each student a love of learning in preparation for college with an emphasis on academic excellence, spiritual development, appreciation of diversity and social responsibility.
