Bonham, Texas - Funeral services for Joyce Chavez will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at 2 PM at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Bonham. Interment will follow at Arledge Ridge Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. James Litrell. Mrs. Chavez passed away Saturday at her residence in Bonham.

She was born May 10, 1936 in Lannius, Texas, the daughter of Walter Thomison and Martha Lawson Thomison. She married Danny Chavez  September 04, 1981 in Bonham. She was a homemaker, a member of The Assembly of God Church and she loved music. In 1991 she wrote and performed the song “ The American Soldier.” Joyce was also the leader of The Happy Jubilee Singers.

She is survived by her husband-Danny Chavez, daughter- Tonja Osborne and husband Joe, grandchildren-Randy Osborne, Timmy Osborne, Jennifer Stevenson, Amanda Ortiz, Rosa Ortiz, great grandchildren- Hannah Osborne, Aaliyah Osborne, Tyler Hilliard, Haven Stevenson, and Caryn Stevenson,  brother- Jewell Thomison, son-in-law-Johnny Ortiz and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter-Tamara Ortiz, brothers-Calvin and Thurman Thominson and her parents.

Pallbearers will be Denver Owens, Jerry Reynolds, James Hicks, Randell Osborne, Timothy Osborne and Thomas Wingfield.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6-7 PM at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Bonham.
