Heritage Day activities in historic downtown Bonham will begin to take shape when a crowd gathers for the Bill Farris Old Settlers’ Picnic set for 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 24 at the Bonham Square.

This event was originally planned for the pavilion, but it will be held at the Bonham Square.

A list of many of the pioneers of Fannin County, compiled by Bill Farris, will be on display inside the Fannin County Courthouse Friday evening, beginning at 6:30 and than again on Saturday for Heritage Day.

Beginning at 7:00 p.m. Friday, the Archie Freeman Band will be playing on the Bonham Square.  Please bring your picnic and enjoy the music as you eat.

Of course, the carnival at the corner of South Main Street and South 1st Street is already underway and will continue until late Saturday afternoon.

The third annual Heritage Day Celebration gets underway Saturday, July 25 with a full slate of events.  Heritage Day will have one handy new feature this year -- public transportation to shuttle the festival crowd between events and historic sites.

Two Texoma Area Paratransit System (TAPS) buses will be making the circuit every 15-20 minutes to carry passengers FOR FREE from parking lots to the Bonham Square, Creative Arts Center, Sam Rayburn Library and Museum, Fort Inglish and Fannin County Museum of History.

For a small fee, TAPS will even pick up Bonham residents at their home and ferry them to the points of interest throughout the city.  For residents under 60 years of age, the fare will be $2, with those over 60 paying just 1$. TAPS will make their last pick up at 4:00 p.m.  (TAPS will only be servicing Heritage Day and designated points of interest).

With TAPS doing the driving, this is a perfect opportunity to visit Creative Arts Center, Sam Rayburn Library, Fort Inglish and the Fannin County Museum of History.

Be sure and check the updated Heritage Day schedule below and then come out to celebrate this mid-summer festival in Bonham.

Then, late Friday and Saturday evening, travel east on Hwy 56 to Windom to catch Red River Community Theatre's performance of Funny Side Up.
