Summertime is almost here!  School will soon be out!  There will be lots to do at the Van Alstyne Public library in June and July.  Pick up an activities calendar and post it on your refrigerator where you’ll see at a glance what excitement is going on at the library each day.

Blanca Scroggins will be providing a bilingual story time, Cuentame un Cuento, on each Tuesday in June, at 11:15.  Bring your children for an opportunity to learn some Spanish as well as hear some fun stories.  Bethany Lewis will be leading a book discussion of Bluebonnet books on Tuesday mornings at 10:15, beginning on June 9, for children in grades 3-5.

Magician Jeff Lee will be here on June 11 at 2:00 to kick-off our summer reading program Libraries: Deep in the Heart of Texas!  Preschool story time begins on June 17 with a circus puppet show.  Parents should register early to have their choice of the 10:15 or 11:15 story time.  Registration will be limited to no more than 45 children and adults at each program.

Jerry Hamon will bring a Parks & Wildlife program on Angler Education on Thursday June 18, at 2:00 p.m., just in time for Dad’s Day.  Merrill Hazelton will tell “How Pa Killed the Tractor” on Wednesday June 24.  The Ringling Brothers Clowns will perform at the library on Friday June 26 at 11:00 a.m.

July will also be packed with activities, including a Reader’s Theater group for children in grades 3-6.  The Sherman Theatrics traveling players will perform on Thursday July 16 at 7:00 p.m.  Preschool story times will continue through Wednesday, July 15.

All reading logs must be turned in by July 18.  On Monday July 20, our summer reading program will close with an awards program and a visit from the Creature Teacher, at 2:00 p.m.

The library has many unidentified pictures in its local history files.  In an attempt to identify some of the people in these photos, we will publish a few at a time.

If you know who these people and places are, contact Lillie Monk or Juanita Hazelton at 902-482-5991.
