New security force at NTHC: Hank the Cowdog
"When I took this job as Head of Ranch Security, I knew that I was only flesh and blood, four legs, a tail, a couple of ears, a pretty nice kind of nose that the women really go for, two bushels of hair and another half-bushel of Mexican sandburs. You add that all up and you don't get Superman, just me, good old easy-going Hank who works hard, tries to do his job, and gets very little cooperation from anyone else around here."
~From Hank the Cowdog #1. The Original Adventures of Hank the Cowdog by John R. Erickson

Newsom’s Texas drawl and way with words bring these classic children’s tales to life like you’ve never heard them before. If you’ve never read Hank the Cowdog come on down to the North Texas History Center on May 16 at 11:00 a.m. and receive a taste of this Texas favorite.
“We believe in making museums a place the whole family can enjoy, and this storytime is a great way to introduce children to our museum.” said Sarah Hatcher, Education Curator at NTHC. The Hands on Gallery in the North Texas History Center is a non-traditional museum space and will be the site of the Hank the Cowdog storytime in May and other storytimes and day camps throughout the summer and fall.
Don Newsom has been an educator for over 30 years and has been a classroom teacher, principal, coach and most recently, superintendent of Celina ISD. His time as Slim began after an experience in his grandson’s classroom.
The suggested donation to attend storytime at NTHC is $1 per child. For more information please call 972.542.9457 ext. 102 or visit www.northtexashistorycenter.org.
