Worden, Hartline lead A&M-Commerce to seventh at Midwest/South Central Regional Tournament

Seniors Blake Worden and Pinkey Hartline each finished in a tie for 15th to push the Texas A&M University-Commerce men’s golf team to seventh place at the Midwest/South Central Men’s Regional Tournament in Allendale, Mich. on Wednesday.

Worden, playing in his fourth straight regional tourney, closed the final round with a 218 (77-70-71) for the Lions after shooting an even-par 71. Hartline also posted a 218 (72-73-73) and ended in the top 15 for the fifth time in his last seven tournaments.

Junior Danny Jun bounced back from a first round 80 and registered back-to-back 71s to tie for 38th overall with a 222. Sophomore Dustin Gideon totaled a 228 (75-74-79) and tied for 70th and junior Eric Westerman collected a 230 (77-77-76) and tied for 82nd.

A&M-Commerce totaled an 880 (301-288-291) throughout the three-day, 54-hole championship and climbed up the leaderboard after each round at the Meadows Golf Club.

Wayne State’s Steve Cuzzort claimed the individual title with a 206 (67-69-70) and helped the Warriors become regional champions with an 859 (278-284-297).

Cuzzort and the Warriors never trailed after grabbing the lead during Monday’s first round.

Northeastern State took second with an 865 (291-281-293), Central Missouri placed fourth with an 871 (287-295-289) and Ferris State and Indianapolis tied for fourth with an 875 apiece.
