Katie Barber of Bonham took home the top honor in the “Open Your Heart” Youth Art Contest hosted by the Fannin County Children’s Center. Marla Frazier of Blue Ridge won second place.
The awards were presented by Children’s Center Board Member Ericka Alexander at the Center’s annual open house. All of the artwork entered in the contest was on display at the Children’s Center. Earlier in the month it was on display at the Creative Arts Center.
“As you can see by looking around the room at all of the artwork on display, the judges had a difficult time deciding on the winners,” said Alexander when announcing the awards.
Barber is a seventh grader at LH Rather Junior High in Bonham. She won a $100 gift card to Wal-Mart. Frazier won a $50 Wal-Mart gift card. Prizes were sponsored by Dr. Jim and Valerie Tarpley.
The winning artwork has been used to create cards that are being mailed out to individuals to raise funds for the Children’s Center. The money raised will help sustain the agency’s services for abused and neglected children, including CASA and the Children’s Advocacy Center.
FCCC Board President Melanie Grammar also addressed those in attendance at the agency’s open house. She thanked everyone for attending and for their support of the non-profit agency. She said that last year there were 116 children who were confirmed victims of child abuse and neglect in Fannin County.
