Reaching out to the schools and children of Fannin County accomplishes the following:
Motivates Reading and Learning
Promotes Creative Thinking
& A Fun Experience
All 7th and 8th grade Fannin County Students are “gearing-up” to participate in this rewarding experience. Designing a bookmark around the “Reading Rocks” theme is a creative way for a student to realize the advantages of how important it is to read in today’s society.
We are proud to announce that The Barbara Bush Bookmark Contest of Fannin County has been recognized on a national level by the Federation of Republican Women Literacy Programs. The tremendous success of the first three contests sparked the imagination and touched the lives of hundreds of Fannin County students. The theme of this year’s contest “Reading Rocks” will be fun as well as encourage classroom discussion. Our goal towards literacy is not simply the grasp of basic educational skills – but the heartfelt need to make reading a continuous and important part of daily life.
The contest will begin in February and the deadline for all entries is April 3rd. The entries will be judged and the first place winner will receive a prize of $100.00 and the second place winner will receive a prize of $50.00.The winning bookmark design will be reproduced and over 2000 bookmarks will be distributed at schools, libraries and events in Fannin County. On May 4th from 6:30-7:30 PM at The Elizabeth May Room, The American Bank, in Bonham an Autograph Party will be held to present all awards and recognize students that participated in this program.
The Fannin County Republican Women are committed to this rewarding program that promotes literacy in Fannin County Schools. Your children deserve the best in fun and learning - “Let Reading Rock.”
