Photography will be the topic at the January 10, 2009, Second Saturday at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge, when speakers Wyatt and Theresa Spurgin present Digital Photography:  Getting Past Auto Setting on Your Camera. The free program, sponsored by the Friends of Hagerman NWR will begin at 10 a.m.

Wyatt Spurgin will talk about how the camera “sees” light and it’s limitations in “auto” modes.  He will also address  how to overcome those limitations (and maybe get creative) with manual settings.  Shutter speed, aperture, ISO, and white balance settings will be covered.  What are they and how, when, and why use which one.

Next, we’ll move on to talk some about the “digital darkroom.”  Computers, monitors, Photoshop and other software, and pros and cons of various file formats (.jpeg, .raw, or .dng).

Wyatt and Theresa own Hummingbird Artistic Images in Sherman.  As photography specialists,  they create architectural virtual tours, advertising/marketing images, provide event coverage, modeling portfolios, and family portraits.

Wyatt Spurgin, true to his nature as an artisan, enjoys excelling in the use of all kinds of tools. Whether it is using the tools of his trade as a career firefighter, building and flying radio controlled aerobatic airplanes, swinging a golf club, shooting a basketball, or shooting a camera, satisfaction comes from perfectly controlled movement resulting in an end product that is worthy of admiration.

Theresa, on the other hand, is the strategist, working her magic in the areas of marketing, planning, photo session layouts, and running the day to day business. Wyatt and They enjoy spending time together blending their unique talents and abilities.

Second Saturday nature programs are sponsored by the Friends of Hagerman NWR.  Programs are open to the public.  For more information, visit http://www.friendsofhagerman.com/ or contact the Refuge, 903 786 2826.
