Fannindel Class of 2003 announcements

High School Principal, Larry J. Braley, announces that Commencement exercises will be held for the Class of 2003, on May 30, 2003 at Fannindel Elementary Gym, Pecan Gap at 8 p.m.

Community churches are hosting a Baccalaureate service in honor of the Senior Class on May 25, 2003, at the First United Methodist Church in Pecan Gap at 11 a.m.  Area ministers will be participating in the service.

The valedictorian of the Class of 2003, is Tara Reel with a four-year average of 93.31.  The salutatorian is Chiquita Wilburn with a four-year average of 92.97.  Other honor graduates are Lance Smith with a   92.14, Amy Nichols with a 91.18, and LaTonya Armstrong with a    90.25.

Salutatorian

Chiquita Wilburn with a four-year average of 92.97 is the daughter of Connie Wilburn and Cal T. Lewis of Pecan Gap and Manuel and Loretta Jimenez of Bonham. 

Chiquita has been an active Fannindel student who is committed to help whenever she is needed.  A cheerleader for three years and mascot for one, she was active from the sidelines and on the field of play as a basketball and softball player.  She participated in UIL academic competition three years.  Chiquita served her senior class as secretary and class favorite.  She is a member of the Fannindel Chapter of the National Beta Club, where she serves as vice-president.  She and another member were responsible for the electronic scrapbook, which placed fourth at state competition.  She has been a member of the Spanish Club and FCA.  She was the stage manager for the OAP this spring.  Chiquita has participated in the Upward Bound Program at Texas A&M—Commerce, where she has received several academic awards.  She was selected to Who’s Who Among American High School students and selected by faculty members of FHS to receive the Speech and Geography awards.  Fannindel ISD and TEA honored her with her selection to the Celebration of Excellence Award last spring. 

Chiquita has been concurrently enrolled at Texas A&M—Commerce for the year.  She works part-time at Braum’s Ice Cream and Diary in Commerce.   A member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, she is active with the youth of the church and serves as secretary, youth choir director, and an usher. 

She will attend Texas A&M—Commerce, to pursue a degree in elementary education.

Valedictorian

Miss Tara Reel, the valedictorian with a four-year average of 93.31, is the daughter of Charlie and Janna Reel.  She is the granddaughter of Don and Carolyn Davis of Ladonia and the late Thomas and Judy Reel of Ladonia. 

A four-year varsity cheerleader, she was captain of the 2001 squad.  In addition to her cheerleading duties, she was a member of the Lady Falcon softball team for three years where she received district honors as a sophomore.

Tara was elected to serve her class as president her sophomore year and as vice president her junior and senior years. She is a member of the FFA, where she is serving as FFA vice president..   She has been an active member of the Fannindel Beta Club where she has participated in talent and scrapbook.  She has also been a member of the Spanish Club and Student Council.  Tara was elected  “Most Beautiful” by the student body her junior year.

Tara was selected by Who’s Who Among American High School students and has been a cast member of the One Act Play all four years, where she was selected to the All Star Cast.    Fannindel ISD and TEA honored her with her selection to the Celebration of Excellence Award last spring.  She was selected to the National Honor Roll and plans to attend Paris Junior College following graduation.
