Live music, longer shopping hours and art exhibits featured
McKINNEY, Texas (Oct. 9, 2008) – The Second Saturday activities on Oct. 11 in downtown McKinney will feature more outdoor activities, thanks to the city’s complete infrastructure project on the downtown square.
“We want to reintroduce the new downtown to all of the patrons at this Second Saturday. Improvements like wider sidewalks, new landscaping and more parking all make it a more convenient, festive and pedestrian friendly event,” said Main Street Program Director Ty Lake.
In addition to outdoor live entertainment and extended shopping hours, below are some of the highlights you can expect to see this coming Second Saturday:
Featured artists will be at downtown galleries.
- Laura Moore Fine Art Studio with guest Artist Mark White will feature “Importality” from 7 to 10 p.m. with live acoustic guitar by Jeff Escude.
- Alternative Furnishings will be open late and have art on display from local artists including Carrie Cameron, Justin Hunt, Nancy Hall, Charm Cameron, Karen Hall Nitz and Terie Beth Dillard.
- Star Specialty Contempo will feature Larry Pile, the Kessler Craftsman, who will demonstrate his works in glass and stained glass, Robert Wardle specializing in water colors featuring his custom guitar portraits and Brenda Pratt launching her new Wearable Art Collection. Stop by for a glass of wine and meet the artists.
- The Garret Art Gallery will be open from 7 to 10 p.m. The gallery artists will display new work and will be on hand to greet visitors. Free snacks and refreshments are provided.
Shop around and relax.
- Strada Verde will be open with a storewide fall sale.
- Market Square serves refreshments.
- 209 Downtown Spa will offer a 10 percent discount for all service bookings scheduled on Saturday.
- Shops on S. Tennessee will resume "Shop to Shop Hop," with live music provided by the Retro Band from 6 to 10 p.m. Participating stores include StoneRiver Jewelry, C.J. Riley & Co., The Picket Fence, 120, Inc., The Brier Patch and Plum Creek Primitives.
- Happy Trails Carriage Service will be offering horse drawn carriage throughout Historic Downtown McKinney.
- Upstage Dancewear hosts a Saturday night dance for USA
Live entertainment will be the backdrop for the many dining options downtown.
- Poppy’s will have a free art show from 7 to 10 p.m. presented by the artist partnership, Five Outlaws In Art, and the band the Blu Rock Band.
- Cadillac Pub’s runs ESPN’s Game Day package with all the college games available. Maylee Thomas and her band play the blues at 9 p.m.
- Spoons will showcase the Art House of McKinney, making pottery and live music with Spoons favorite Sean Holden, dinner and full bar available.
- LaMisha offers live music and complimentary desert for customers.
- Lavender House will feature pianist, Chris Sanderson and full menu.
- At Rick’s Chophouse, enjoy the new patio and live music by Badanks.
- Coffee N Cream hosts John Lee Boyer along with several new artists presenting a wide variety of media and styles.
