STEPHENVILLE, TEXAS—If Tarleton State University’s sold-out presentation of “Greater Tuna” appealed to you, then you might be interested in joining the university’s ULTRA Club.
The ULTRA Club is an organization dedicated to providing support for the arts at Tarleton. As the fall semester begins, the ULTRA Club is starting its annual membership drive.
ULTRA Club members will kick off the year with its annual dinner theatre on Sept. 23 at 5:30 p.m. For this event, club members will gather for a feast held onstage in the auditorium of the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center. Afterwards, club members will be treated to an opening night performance of “Godspell.”
Not only does the ULTRA Club host the dinner theatre, but it also hosts the Big Band dance in the spring. At this annual dance, a group of volunteer musicians dedicated to the preservation and performance of the great American golden age of jazz and swing music provide the entertainment. Here members can enjoy fine music, dancing and eating. This function serves as a way of saying thanks to ULTRA Club supporters and helps raise scholarship funds.
Unlike other clubs, the ULTRA Club doesn’t have meetings or Clubhouse functions and has no officers or presidents. The ULTRA Club’s only goal is to provide support to the fine arts through membership dues, gifts and fundraising activities.
There are six levels of membership, with the lowest level starting with a $10 donation. Each level has different benefits, such as free tickets. However, all members receive seven editions of “ULTRA News,” which contains information about current art events at Tarleton as well as the Langdon center in Granbury.
As an ULTRA Club member, you would help provide scholarships, fund travel expenses to conferences and competitions and bring guests artists to Tarleton for exhibits and workshops.
According to the ULTRA Club, “We help to bridge the gap between what the university can do to educate students and the edge they need to compete in today’s world.”
