After a crushing defeat to S&S over the weekend, the Tom Bean Lady Cats needed a convincing win to lift spirits again. It does not get any more convincing than their Tuesday night game against Gunter, as the Cats pasted the Lady Tigers 10-0 in five innings due to the run-rule.
Megan Mitchell got the shutout, striking out 7 batters in the process. Only on five occasions did the visitors get a hit of off Mitchell, but that was the most they could do against great defensive play by the Lady Cats.
Joey Bailey managed to get 2 singles in her two at bats, but was caught stealing on both of her on base appearances. The first was a great play by catcher Malorie Bullock, as she slung the ball all the way down to second where senior Lindsey Lacy, who tallied two put outs and one assist defensively on the night, got the tag out. On the second occasion, Bailey found herself caught between second and third and was eventually run down by second baseman Ashlyn LeDane.
LeDane also did well offensively for Tom Bean. The sophomore was 3-3 at bat on the night, scoring 3 runs and stealing two bases. Mitchell and Lacy led in RBIs with two each.
The Lady Cats now stand at 6-1 in district, and will play rival Whitewright in a double header on Friday.
