Led by the 10 pars of junior Ali Tanner, the Texas A&M University-Commerce women's golf team is in 12th place after the first day of the Lion Invitational at the Tanglewood Golf Resort in Pottsboro.
The junior from Wolfe City shot a team-best 86, including 10 pars - tied for the second most in the 77-person field, to lead A&M-Commerce. Tanner is tied for 23rd overall and trails the individual lead by seven strokes as three players shot a 79 in the first round. Sharing the lead are Raelynn Farthing (Central Oklahoma), Marissa Hill (Drury) and Abbey Weddle (Nebraska Omaha).
The University of Nebraska Omaha, who is currently ranked No. 11 in the nation by GolfStat, has four golfers in the top 10 led by Weddle. She is joined by Sara Wolfe, who is tied for fourth, Lynn Mulligan, who is tied for eighth and Erin Ommen, who is tied for 10th.
A&M-Commerce junior Jamie Gililland shot an 89 and is tied for 38th after the opening round, freshman Mallory Kempf posted a 93 and is tied for 53rd and is tied for 53rd and sophomore Heather Pantalion recorded a 96 and is tied for 63rd. Freshman Megan Benites posted a 104 and is in 70th. Lions' individuals Amber Fedro and Jewell Malick shot a 94 and 106, respectively.
